The X, I mean… FLICKR Files

Flickr? Flickr! Know it, use it, love it! Apart from your actual blog, Flickr is a musthave for bloggers. Ever since I started blogging (we’re talking 2008 here), I’ve been using Flickr. It is a nice way to collect all your pictures (and organize them, if you’re into organizing) and sharing them online with friends, future friends and contacts.

When you blog to showcase/review designs, whether they are clothes or furniture, your pictures do alot of the talking in your blogpost. So why not give them a bit more exposure? (And on a sidenote: you don’t need to fuss with resizing your pics for your blogposts, Flickr can do that for you!)
By storing your pictures on Flickr, you’re showcasing your blog pictures to even more people. There are lots (and lots) of groups to submit your picture too. Designers create groups for their store, there are groups for events, groups with certain themes (fashion, raw shots, furniture, …). You can submit to any amount of groups. Please just don’t randomly add your pictures to groups without reading the group rules (eg. submit a highly edited picture to a raw SL shots group).

Where does one find these groups? If you don’t feel like searching Flickr, we made you a nice overview of Flickr groups! Make sure to check them out. (They can be found on the top menu, in a drop down menu from The FLICKR Files) Do you notice an awesome Flickr group is missing? Please submit the link by using the form and we’ll add it to the list!

What every blogger must be part of…

A few months ago I was in Plurk talking with a bunch of other bloggers and designers about blogging and the lot. Of course many ideas were tossed around, but one of them was something that Magenta DeVinna brought up that stuck with me because I had felt it as well: There was a loss of inspiration. Where was it? What had happened to blogging, except it becoming this monotinous movement of post after post of just…items? What happened to the feeling within the blog? Finally, someone (I believe it was Prad) who asked “Do the bloggers have support?”

And right then and there it clicked. We didn’t – or wait…we did, and I know there are other groups within Second Life for bloggers, but I hadn’t really ‘heard’ about them. They weren’t talked about. So, myself and a few other bloggers decided to join some heads. We founded the [SL] Blogger Support Group in world. A place where bloggers could get together and discuss everything under the sun relating to what we do best – BLOG! I’m not just talking just fashion blogging (although a big majority of it is thus) – I’m talking about all types of Second Life blogging. From Tipsy Cerulean’s  “SLA Review” to Whiskey Monday’s “Whiskey Shots” to Maribel Button’s “So Buttons”.

With a little help from people on Plurk, a nice little push on Flickr – the group took off in-world, making it so that another step had to come into play: The blog. Setting up the blog took some time, but since it will always be a work in progress, it will become (I hope) a great asset to all bloggers within the grid. What makes, in my mind, a big success about the whole idea is the people who are embracing it and I wanted to say a big THANK YOU to everyone that is involved in the blog, the group and to each and every single one of you. Logging in each day, hopping in the chat and getting support is amazing!

Changes will be coming to the blog within time. I commissioned LiquidHell Carter for our new logo. Eventually the blog will be a little more revamped and eventually go to it’s own domain (my hopes for 2013).

If you have any questions in regards to the group in-world or about the blog, please ask! Thank you to the Support Staff and Contributors! You guys rock!

Raid Your Closet Challenge is BACK!

Lucie asked me if I would post this for you bloggers and here you go! I’m taking her own words and showing you the awesome new challenge that you can sink your teeth into! Enjoy fellow peeps! Let the Raid begin!

Dear Shopping Addict,

I, like many in SL, have a rather vast inventory of things I buy and then never even wear or use once! I created this Flickr challenge last year called the Raid Your Closet Challenge (RYCC for short). My blog was born of this challenge, and I (and the people who did it with me) had a lot of fun, so I thought I’d do it again as a formal blogger challenge. You are more than welcome to join in via Flickr or Plurk if you do not blog.

Here’s the catch:

You can’t buy ANYTHING new for these pics. It all must be stuff you own as of September 30th! Now, by all means, I don’t expect us shopaholics to go cold turkey. So feel free to shop anyway. But you can’t use those items in the pics for this challenge.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to wear something different for each look. You can have “exceptions,” like if you always wear the same skin or shape or eyelashes. Just state those in your very first post.

Here’s a list of my personal exceptions:
My wedding ring
My shape (though I may wear a different one, who knows?)

You can set up your own exceptions… as long as you follow the main rules… a new look each week, and you must have owned every item in the picture before October 1st.

The When & Where

On your blog, Flickr &/or Plurk

Starting Monday, October 1st… and every Monday in October, for a total of 5 pics/looks/posts.

Are you up for the challenge??? If you are, then let’s raid our “closets” together!
